Custom metrics and custom dimensions are default in your Analytics account, but you have to create them yourself. These two are useful for collecting and analyzing data that Google Analytics does not automatically track. They also allow you to combine both Analytics and non-Analytics data. Scope is what identifies which hits should be associated with a specific custom dimension value. The four levels of scope are product, hit, session, and user.
